A Goldsboro dad is facing charges ranging from child abuse to drug possession. Police say the man abandoned his car and his kids when officers pulled him over for speeding.
Goldsboro Police say an officer pulled over a speeding car on the 100 Block of S. Berkeley Blvd. at 4 p.m. Thursday. Officers say the driver stopped his car and ran away, leaving two children in the vehicle.
Police say the suspect outran them, but they were able to quickly identify him as 22-year-old Donovan Dorelle Dewitt of Jefferson Ave. in Goldsboro. Lawmen say an identification card and his children verified who he was to the officers on the scene.
Police say they found Dewitt a short time later in an another car on the
1600 block of E. Elm St. He was arrested without incident.
Dewitt is charged with Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana, Maintaining a Vehicle for the Purpose of Selling Marijuana, Resisting a Public Officer, Driving While License Revoked, Speeding, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Child Abuse. Dewitt was also served with two outstanding warrants for Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana and Maintaining a Vehicle/Dwelling for the Purpose of Selling Marijuana.
Dewitt was placed in the Wayne County Jail under an $8,000 secured bond.
