Wounded Deputy's Family Issues Statement

The family of a wounded deputy has issued a statement.

Detective Ryan Dawson is now in fair condition at Pitt County Memorial Hospital after being shot late Tuesday night outside of Grifton.

"Our family wishes to express our sincere appreciation for the outpouring of love and concern for Ryan. We are so grateful to Lenoir County EMS, EastCare, Pitt County Memorial Hospital and most especially the Lenoir County Sheriff's Department for all their support and efforts in caring for Ryan during this very difficult time. We would also like to thank the many law enforcement agencies that have stopped by, called or offered support for our family in so many ways.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Ryan's friend & partner, Allen Pearson, and will continue to keep his family in our prayers."

May God see Deputy Dawson through to a full recovery. And may He be with family members, co-workers, friends, and fellow law enforcement officers as they cope with this incident. Prayers are being spoken for all of you.

Beverly, Please charish every moment with Ryan. We know that he is a true hero. He and Allen both, and all law enforcement who work to keep all of us safe each and every day. God bless you.

Ryan was our neighbor for many years, growing up. His family still lives next to us. The news shook everyone that heard. Knowing that there are men, not only willing to protect us all, but to put their lives on the line each day to ensure our safety, makes me rest better at night. These men to me are heros. A HERO doesn't have to have super-power, Just a super big heart! We are all hoping to have Ryan protecting us again real soon, and knowing that Allen is above protecting him....Sure is heart warming! We love all of you guys!
