Troopers: Underage Drunk Driver Nearly Hits Highway Patrol Station

It's no secret that state troopers are always on the lookout for drunk drivers. Well now they may be landing at their front door.

Sunday afternoon troopers say a drunk driver plowed toward their Greenville headquarters on 10th Street. A metal railing prevented the car from actually hitting the buidling.

Sgt. Ernie Coleman was inside doing paperwork and says he heard the crash. He looked out to see if anyone was hurt. "At that time no was in the car. I looked to the right and noticed someone in a yellow shirt running to the King's Handy Mart."

Coleman says moments later that man in the yellow shirt returned and the trooper says he noticed a strong odor of alcohol.

Charged with DWI, drunk driving while underage, hit and run and careless and reckless driving was 19-year-old James Brake of Kitty Hawk.

Luckily no one was injured in the crash. As for Brake, he has bonded out of jail.

I think that it is stupid to put this on the news and online. I think there is very many other topics this news station could have come up with than to pick on a teenager. Nobody was hurt, a handrail got bent, and somebody got a dui. big deal

I would just like to add that drinking & driving does have serious consequences. I am not even talking about legal consequences. My nephew spent months in the hospital due to an accident caused by a drink driver. He was 8 yrs old when this happened his face was fractured, femor hip ankle & broken, his spine was separated by 1 full inch & his tongue was almost completely severed. He had numerous surgeries & more to come. He spent his 9th birthday in a traction halo. He is very, very lucky to be here & I am thankful that he is still here. The thing that people dont realize is that this could have been prevented by someone choosing not to drive drunk or buzzed. As far as this situation goes i am glad no one was hurt & hope that there is a lesson learned. I know evryone thinks it wont happen to them but we didnt think it would happen to us either. Rick & Ashleigh I wish u well in Florida maybe u will fit in better there since yall dont seem to like us north carolinians very much.

Haha.... These comments are ridiculous. People are saying they know the real story when they don't and people are fighting over something that has been done and is over with. Fact 1 you cant still be drunk from the clubs the night before when they stop serving at 2. Fact 2 Unless he drank through the night he wouldnt still be drunk at 130 the next day. Fact 3 you dont run unless you know your drunk. Fact 4 you shouldnt be out driving drunk period....
