A 3-year-old boy was eating cereal at the kitchen table when he was shot in the gruesome quadruple murder of his family in their western North Carolina home.
Authorities discussed the case Monday in their first detailed account since the boy, his two sisters and mother were found dead inside their home near the small town of Conover, about 40 miles northwest of Charlotte.
Catawba County Sheriff David Huffman said the boy's adult sister called her younger sister that morning, warning her not to come home after she left for school. The teenager came home anyway, after her friend told her she had seen a suspicious man outside the home.
Huffman said investigators believe it wasn't a random attack and the family was the intended target.
