Cruise Ship Worker Accused Of Sexual Assault

A Princess Cruises employee accused of sexually assaulting a female passenger during a 14-day cruise has been ordered held without bond in Los Angeles.

Jorge Teixeira was deemed a flight risk by a federal judge on Thursday. The 38-year-old Portuguese man has been charged with aggravated sexual abuse and is scheduled to be arraigned March 30.

If convicted, he could face up to life in prison.

Teixeira was arrested Monday as the Coral Princess ship docked at the Port of Los Angeles after a cruise through the Panama Canal.

The passenger told authorities she was sexually assaulted by Teixeira after they shared wine in the ship's dining room.

Deputy federal public defender Stephen Demik declined comment.
