POLICE: Marine Threatens To Blow Up Plane, Kill President

Wilmington, NC - Police say a Camp Lejeune Marine threatened to blow up a plane Tuesday night at the Wilmington International Airport.

Airport police say he also threatened to kill the president, kill police and their families.

Nicholas Hanke is in the New Hanover County jail, facing state and federal charges.

Gary Broughton, operations director at the airport, says Hanke was on a US Airways flight to Charlotte when he got on the plane and yelled "you people are stupid, there is a bomb on this plane and it's going to blow up."

Broughton tells WITN News that when the flight attendants approached Hanke, he assaulted the crew and then ran off the plane into the terminal.

Airport police chased the Marine, and he assaulted them as well. Broughton says when Transportation Security Administration officers approached Hanke he threatened to kill the president.

All of the plane's baggage was unloaded and searched for explosives, and each passenger was also re-screened.

Hanke is expected to be interviewed by the FBI and Secret Service who may also file charges.

Less than two weeks ago President Barack Obama visited Camp Lejeune to announce a troop withdrawal from Iraq.

This man is not reflective of our honorable troops. He needs help. I guess this is one person on record that doesn't care for Obama.

To Anonymous on Mar 13, 2009 at 02:45 PM: Why is my comment insulting? I called him neither a black man nor a white man. I said that, if you listen to the people involved in his raising, he was TREATED as a black man. And, you mean to tell me that when the question of race comes up on an application or some other type of form she answers, myself? You are right however, she is neither black nor white, she is both black and white. This is something she, as well as all people, should be proud of. It is her heritage. I also meant that most of the people that do not like President Obama do so due to his race which they see as black but keep saying that he is more white than black. Doing this helps them, although not happy with the fact of a Black president, cope somehow. But if I have insulted you in any fasion, I do appoligize. It was not my intention to do this.

Yes, Citizen in Kinston. It's really happening, but I thank God I'm able to live life and enjoy life. Thanking God is good for the heart! When I wake up I should thank God - thank Him for food, thank Him for divine protection while driving, thank Him for doing things throughout the day that I'm not even aware of.

To enough already how can you say that? Just because of certain peoples actions doesnt mean they are all that way. I have countless family members and also my husband is a marine. And they are heros. No matter what you think or anyone else for that matter. My husband and his friends and my family have put their lives in danger for this country and with honor. Just because one president was bad does that mean they all are, no so how can you say since one marine has done something shameful doesnt mean they all should be looked down upon. I am disgusted by you and nevermind I won't say anymore you aren't worth it and if I write something negative they might not publish it. And any chance you people get to say whos right and wrong with our government you take it. How about shut your mouths open your eyes and see what good around us and quit being so negative. If you don't like the way something is being done, do something about it instead of whine and moan. That goes to all of you.

To Coach M, as the mother of a biracial child, your comment is insulting. My child considers herself neither black nor white, just herself. When asked she will tell you that , yes I'm biracial and the best of both. And no I wouldn't automatically assume he was a black man. Any one with eyes can tell he's not "full" black and therefore not "black". I didn't vote for the man because I didn't like what he was spouting and believe he will ruin this country. McCain spouted off also and if it had been Hillary instead, McCain wouldn't have gotten my vote.

Just like "Trucker" said. Here was our real mistake. If you want a list of mistakes, and big ones at that...for all of you that help put GW Bush in the White House just read. Then we can talk about undeniable mistakes. The Bush Legacy: the largest drop in home values since the depression, most home foreclosures in history, highest unemployment in 20 years, highest National Debt in history, 20% drop in the value of the DOW Jones, fewest new jobs since WWII, highest food prices in history, largest drop in spendable income since Reagan, highest gas prices with highest oil profits in history, fewest housing starts in 20 years, hundred billion dollar bank bailout, hundred billion dollar mortgage company bailout. Now, after round one of this man, you people put him BACK in office again. Joke is on you.

Citizen, Yes this country made a tragic mistake, a TRAGIC MISTAKE we may never recover from. The tragic mistake this country made was putting George W Bush in the Whitehouse. The people that voted him in can live in denial forever for all we care, we know it to be the fact.
