Attorney General Roy Cooper's office says thousands of North Carolina residents who have accounts with the State Employees' Credit Union may have received messages through their cell phones soliciting private financial information.
Attorney General's Office spokeswoman Noelle Talley said Thursday that the latest phishing scam hitting North Carolinians involves someone sending text messages to people requesting they call a specific phone number about their accounts.
Phishing scams seem to come from a legitimate organization and claim they need a person's personal financial information.
Talley said State Employees' Credit Union officials are working
to stop the messages.
