UPDATED: Goldsboro Man Found With Dismembered Animals In Court

The case of Lawton McKenzie the man accused of animal cruelty has been continued to March 26th.

McKenzie has retained his own lawyer.

The Wayne County man faces animal cruelty charges after authorities made a gruesome discovery at his home.

Police found remains of goats, dogs, and snakes in his home.

They also discovered a machete, knives, and bowls of blood.

Investigators also removed 26 living animals from his residence back in December.

McKenzie claims he was studying taxidermy.

A man who said he had been studying taxidermy after officials found dozens of dismembered animals at his eastern North Carolina home will face a judge on animal cruelty charges.

A court appearance is scheduled for Thursday for 29-year-old Lawton McKenzie. He is charged with three counts of cruelty to animals.

Animal control investigators found a machete, several knives and bowls of blood when they went to McKenzie's home near Fremont on Dec. 3, after receiving a tip that animals were being badly treated. Investigators said they found remains of goats, dogs, snakes, a fox, a turtle and a plastic storage bag containing a puppy's head.

Investigators also seized 26 living animals from the home. McKenzie has said he had been studying taxidermy and using the animal bones for necklaces.
