New Development In School Sex Crime Investigation

There is a new development in the sex crime investigation at a local school.

A teacher assistant at Jones Senior High School has been suspended with pay.

The teacher, who was not named because of personnel issues, was suspended pending the results of an SBI investigation.

Monday, WITN first reported the State Bureau of Investigation was looking into allegations that an employee at Jones Senior High School had oral sex with a student.

According to District Attorney Dewey Hudson, the SBI is also investigating whether Jones County authorities handled the allegations properly. The father of the alleged victim claimed nothing had been done about his daughter’s complaint.

Previous Story, February 9, 2009:
The State Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate allegations that an employee at Jones Senior High School had oral sex with a female student prior to Thanksgiving.

District Attorney Dewey Hudson announced the request Friday afternoon, in addition to asking the SBI to investigate whether the Jones County officials properly handled these allegations.

Hudson says the girl's father recently contacted the SBI, complaining that nothing had been done in Jones County with his daughter's complaint last year.

We tried to talk to Sheriff John Hall, but we were told he was in a closed meeting and unavailable for comment. So far, he has not returned WITN's call.

Hudson says there is a possibility that there could be more victims in the case and once the investigation is completed, he will decided whether criminal charges should be brought.

District Attorney News Release

PRESS RELEASE
February 6, 2009

This week I requested the SBI to investigate allegations that an employee at Jones Senior High School committed a sexual act with a minor female student at school prior to Thanksgiving last year. Recently, the father of the student contacted the SBI complaining that nothing had been done in Jones County with his daughter's complaint.

After questioning prosecutors in my office, I informed the SBI that we had made no charging decision and that in fact my office had not been made aware of these allegations by anyone in Jones County. I then requested the SBI to conduct a criminal investigation involving the allegations that a Jones Senior High School employee engaged in oral sex with a female student at that high school. Futhermore, I requested the SBI to investigate allegations that Jones County officials had not properly handled these allegations.

Once the investigation is completed, I will decide whether to file criminal charges and announce my decision to the public.

G. DEWEY HUDSON
DISTRICT ATTORNEY
