Bahamas Senator Accused In Travolta Extortion Resigned

A Bahamas senator accused of trying to extort money from actor John Travolta after his son’s death resigned on Saturday and vowed to prove her innocence.

Sen. Pleasant Bridgewater, an attorney from Grand Bahama, said she plans to fight “untrue and unfair charges” stemming from actions she took as a lawyer.

“How these innocent actions can be so misconstrued, so perversely twisted to mean something other than it was, is a mystery,” she said without providing more details. Bridgewater could not be immediately reached for comment.

Travolta had filed a complaint of attempted extortion, according to police, but did not release any details of the alleged plot. The actor and his wife Kelly Preston have returned home to Florida with the ashes of their 16-year-old, chronically ill son, Jett, who died of a seizure Jan. 2 at their family vacation home on Grand Bahama.

Authorities arrested Bridgewater Thursday on charges of abetment to extort and conspiracy to extort. She was released Friday on $40,000 bail.

The leader of the Bahamas’ ruling party said in a statement that he regrets the turn of events and accepted Bridgewater’s resignation.

“I believe that this is the right and appropriate thing to do in these most unfortunate circumstances,” Perry Christie said.

Police also had detained ambulance driver Tarino Lightbourne and former tourism minister Obie Wilchcombe. Lightbourne is still in custody but Wilchcombe has since been released pending further investigation.

The parliamentarian has described himself as a friend of Travolta who was with the actor shortly after his son died.

Tabloids earlier had quoted Lightbourne on his efforts to revive Travolta’s son. Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Marvin Dames said that Lightbourne was wanted for attempted extortion. He has not been charged.

Tad, that action my friend, is not Christ-like. Christ did not scatter sheep; rather, he gathered sheep. Let me guess. What you wrote is not what you meant, right? You know, they say what a person says is really what he/she is unconsciously thinking. Your statement would suggest that you have intentions of dividing. Even worse, it may be indicative of a broader goal of deceiving others. Well, I have more prophesying to do.

Refluter, what's got yours in such a wad? You can't cause me any grief, grasshopper. Well, I have sheep to scatter.

Tad, you're lucky WITN cares about you boy. because I would really have you some. They didn't post my last comment, but they might have spared you the grief. You're lucky that I have to be politically correct. You complain about political correctness all the time, but you don't know just how it saves your feelings. Have a good night and remember to thank the Liberals who came up with political correctness!

Hope, because the man is in office, is no reason nor precedent for those who dissent to fall in line like good little sheep. As a Christian, I will never fall in line with obuma's social policies because they are the antithesis of Christian values. His huge economic stimulus plan is turning into a plan to spend money on pet projects the democrats like all in the name of saving our economy. These plans have never worked and this one will not either. It adds to the national debt and wastes money on stupid projects that under normal circumstances would not fly with the majority of people. His political positions morph constantly to meet political needs and he is an example of the corrupt politics of his hometown. I will never fall in line behind this fraud. I will chip away at this false "messiah's" aura, little by little, by continuing to tell truth to power. I will try to scatter the sheep and bring them back to reality. Think for yourself, don't let the media do it for you.

As an American, MrT has the right to express anything he wants. Doesn't make him right. The man is in office. Done deal, move on.

No anonymous blogger, MrT and Tad are not one and the same. We are both very unique individuals with great insight into the mistake the electorate of this nation has made. We are, however, two distinct, realistic men.

More blathering from the refluter chick, dismissed again. Hope thanks for catching my spelling error, I was in a hurry and did not proof my comment. Dissent means to feel or express a negative opinion. If MrT wants to take a jab at the Chicago hustler's administration, he should. I do not agree with the policies of this fraud and his nitwits, therefore I will criticize them when I feel the need. This is not the USSR "patriot" where dissent was not allowed because it was a dictatorship. Hope, I was not referring to you as a "feel good" hypocrit, but I was referring to the Travolta's who seem to jump on every other social cause that comes along. My other reference to "feel good" hypocrits was aimed at liberal hypocrits in general, not you. The Travolta's should not have put this young man in front of the camera's claiming Kawasaki when it was obvious that was not the problem. Don't lie and stay private if you want privacy. Bother me again only when it's important, I'm watching tennis.
