Baby Abuse Case Now Death Investigation

A baby, who police say was the victim of child abuse, has died. Now authorities are awaiting on an autopsy to determine if other charges should be brought against the child's babysitter.

Cumuriya Cobb died at Pitt County Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, a day after his first birthday.

The baby was brought to the Craven Regional Medical Center December 17th with serious head trauma. Ishmael Worthington was charged with intentional child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury. Police say Worthington is not related to the baby, but lived in the same house as the boy.

Investigators say an autopsy should be completed today in Pitt County.

Worthington has been in the Craven County jail on a $500,000 bond since his initial arrest.

Only god can judge people, so please leave it in his hands and just pray for both of the families.

I took care of Cumuriya at PCMH. I was one of his nurses. He was the sweetest and cutest baby I have seen. I'm so thankful that he is not in anymore pain and he is in a better place. God Bless!

When my neices were young children, they stayed in a single operator daycare. The daycare provider had been doing it for 20 years and had a big picture window where she could see who was comning or going. I would go pick them up for my sister many days and would always arrive at different times and approach from different directions, to see what was really going on. I spent time talking to the provider and kept her on her toes. Trust no-one when it comes to children!!!

I pray that people with children will look at this case and make sure who ever they get to watch thier children when they are not around are sane. The truth is for me, I have not ever left my children with anyone but my mom, and sister. I can not see any thing worth leaving my children with anyone else. I mean, if I have to work and no one else to watch them, I would have gotten a daycare. I just can't see leaving children with just anyone, esp someone living in my house who is of age with no place to go.

Sorry, but if this guy is found guilty, he should die by beating. There is no excuse whatsoever to harm a child. I have a two year old and it just disgusts me that someone would do this. I have never understood why someone would want to hurt a child. If you get that mad, go fight a tree or something. heck, for that matter, go out and stand in the street and save us the trouble of a court date and time in jail. Say what you want, but that's my opinion.
