Third Arrest Made In Decades Old Murder

Illinois police have arrested a third former Marine in connection to the 1972 shooting of a Camp Lejeune Marine sergeant in Jacksonville, according to authorities.

Roger Gill was taken into custody Friday afternoon. The court-sealed indictment charges Gill with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the homicide of William Miller.

Miller was gunned down by an M-16 more than three decades ago in Onslow County.

This arrest comes just months after George Hayden, a former Belhaven & Cape Carteret police chief, and Vicki Babbit, an Onslow resident, were charged back in September by the Onslow County Sheriff's Department with first degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in Miller's death.

Miller and Babbitt were married at the time and she later married and divorced Hayden. Both are former Marines.
