Police: Do Not Shoot Paintballs At Drunk Drivers

KENNEWICK, Wash. (AP) -- A man who reportedly told police he was trying to deter a friend from driving drunk by blasting the friend's windshield with paintballs wound up in jail. In the words of Kennewick, Wash., police Sgt. Ken Lattin: "This is a very creative way to prevent someone from drinking and driving, but not legal or safe."

Responding Tuesday night to a nearby resident's report of a man shooting paintballs at a car, police found the 41-year-old man, who explained his rationale.

The Tri-City Herald reported the man was arrested and booked into the Benton County jail for investigation of unlawfully discharging a weapon and an unrelated misdemeanor warrant.

Lattin suggested a designated driver would be a better approach.

Let me try this again..... Someone tell "Lisa" I don't talk to generic off brand posters. But I'm sure Lisa isn't just a random poster but a WOLF in sheep's in clothing.... and the reference to Obama is still old...he won, get over it, get a life, move out the country, wrap yourself around it, or go nuts, kick rocks.... there are your options.... Happy New Year!

This is rather ridiculous. Come on the guy DID potentially save a life and possibly many lives. For sure there could have been a better solution but there could have been a much worse one as well. Don't give the kid a medal but don't lock the guy up. That's insane. Toooooo much time is wasted on things like this instead of true needs for law enforcement. I supposrt cops 24-7 but this is shameful. We've all done some stupid things but if all of mine were like this one I would like to think I turned out just fine.

To ALPHA female. Here is a new reference. I bet the Paint ball shooter did vote for Obana. O I spelled it wrong and I don't drink. Nobody ask me what I think I just said it

Chris in Windsor; I forgot to mention that I think your ideas on how to handle drug dealers is a great solution. There is no telling how many lives we could save, not to mention time and money in the court system.

No good dead goes unpunished! And Wolfgang...as much as I like you...you knew this was coming. Your little reference to Obama is really getting old...plus I need to ask you this. Were you drinking yesterday....hence you misspelled your own name? Maybe you shouldn't ask people what they think...they just might tell you!

I do not think he should have gotten charged at all. Telling someone to hand over the keys does not always work. If that fool had got in his car and drove off and killed someone then a paint ball splattered all over the wind shield would be a welcome sign. A person should do what ever means possible to keep drunken fools off the highways. That judge who arrested and charged that man is a fool himself.

To Chris in Greenville; You haven't 'burst my bubble'...I don't live in one. I suppose you would feel differently if the drunk had driven away and then killed someone in your family. A paint ball gun is an absolutely harmless way to prevent him from leaving. I don't know what the laws in Washington State are regarding paint ball guns, nor do I care. I also don't care about the preliminary scuffle, or that the other guy was drunk too. Apparently he was sober enough to know that the other guy was too drunk to drive and he did something about it. The other warrant is irrelevant to the situation. That probably just happen to come up after the cops got there and started running names of the participants through the computer. The bottom line is, the drunk didn't drive away due to the paint on his windshield and nobody was hurt. You keep living in the bubble your in if you are comfortable there. If I had a paint ball gun, I'd use it too. Unfortunately I only own real guns.

Maybe it was breaking the law, but aleast nobody was kill because the drunk drove away. There were better solutions to the problem but it got the job accomplished.

You have got to consider where they were at.Washington State is one of the most Liberal antigun ares in the country. These Dumbocrat crybabies would scream at the sight of a old fashioned pea shooter like kids used to play with in school.Or a cap pistol. America is turning into a bunch of scared little whining crybabies. Not one out of twenty can call themselves a real man.Abunch of wimpy babies.

Oh yeah, Lets all go around breaking the law in order to prevent more laws from getting broken, Great idea! Maybe next we can start shooting drug dealers when we see them, since their poison will ruin the lives of many as well! Court systems???? Pffftt.. HISTORY!
