Second Case Of Possible Child Abuse

Two babies from the same city are hospitalized with serious injuries that may be the result of child abuse.

New Bern police say they both happened within the past two days. In one case, police have charged the child's father. Authorities are still investigating the other and searching for answers as to why these incidents are happening.

The latest incident happened Wednesday night when police say a ten month-old suffered serious head trauma. The young boy was taken by his aunt to Craven Regional Medical Center for treatment before heading to Pitt County Memorial Hospital for surgery.

That baby's injuries come only a day after a New Bern man was arrested for physically abusing his two-month old daughter. Police were notified of multiple serious injuries by hospital officials after her mother brought her to the hospital Tuesday night. Her father, 22-year-old Ermundo Bautista is charged with felony child abuse

National statistics show three million reports of child abuse every year in the United States. The actual number of incidents could be three times that.

J, I couldn't agree more! This makes me sick, and I hope the individuals (I cannot even call them parents) are held responsible and receive the maximum punishment.

This just breaks my heart to think that someone could do this to a baby when there are people out there who would love to have a baby now.
