FIRST ON WITN: Search Warrants Released In Sex Party Case

There is new information in search warrants obtained by WITN News in the case of a Camp Lejeune Marine accused of videotaping teens having sex inside his home, even having sex with at least one of them.

36 year old Staff Sergeant Christopher Oden was arrested Friday after authorities say he had a party at his Hubert home in November. Deputies say he supplied alcohol to 6 teenagers, got them drunk, and encouraged them to engage in sexual activity, even joining in himself.

Search warrants show there were two boys at the home, and four girls during the night of the party. Warrants say Oden told one girl several days after the party that he had sex with her because he got drunk, and asked that she not tell anyone because it would jeopardize his career. That 13-year-old girl told deputies she had never had sex before.

Search warrants also show many items seized from Oden's home. They include multiple computers, video cameras, 71 color photos, a torn up note, VCR tapes, towels, bed sheets, women's underwear and a mattress top and cover.

Oden is in the Onslow County jail under a $110,000 bond. He faces a statutory rape charge, sex offenses with minor charges, indecent liberties and contributing to a delinquency of a minor.

I guess it makes better shock value to say "Marine Charged With Videoing Sex Between Minors". do you suppose the headline would read "7-11 clerk charged with videoing minors". I know these guys(marines) are to be held to higher expectations than most, because they have been given a (sacred) trust, but some end up being dirt-bags. This one is the "very small minority" that gives every other military person a bad name.

I have a question for the News Organizations. Don't you know that these children still hve to live in this town? You do your best to tell the world everything that has happenned in a way that makes them look like they are the guilty ones. I guess that it doesn't matter what this does to these children's lives so long as you can sell your news! How about some Compassion for them!

Let's in eastern North Carolina we have five military bases within two hours of each other - Camp Lejeune and Cherry Point (Marines), Pope and Seymour Johnson (Air Force), and Fort Bragg (Army). Of the three branches that are represented here, most of the time...not all of the time, but a majority of the is a Marine that you hear about in crime news. I don't know for sure, but I would say that more Marines are on the frontlines than any other branch. In a country of over-paid athletes and movie stars, they should be the true role models. Then, you hear about news like this all too often...especially in our area. Maybe it's due to the extreme training and drills that Marines go through...I don't know. But, I do know that they should think before acting more often. These individuals tarnish the reputations of their entire outfits.
