Taxi Hits Man After He Didn't Pay Fare

Police say a man who tried to skip out on taxi fare in Wilmington was struck by the cab of the driver he tried to stiff.

Authorities told the Star-News of Wilmington that the 22-year-old man had the taxi take him to a convenience store Sunday.

Police say the man promised to get money for the fare out of an ATM, but then started to run from the parking lot.

Investigators say the cab driver chased the man, turning the taxi hard to the right to strike him.

Police say the man struck remains in the hospital, and his identity has not been determined.

Authorities are investigating the incident

watch how you say things because if you think thats how money owed should be collected then 75% or more of this nation would be hunted down for owing credit card companies, mortgages, car loans, etc... What would be YOUR fate if these companies used the same approach? And if someone stole money from you via 401k like that guy who ran the $50 billion ponzi scheme, what should be his fate? A thief is a thief is a thief.

Wilma, That is EXACTLY how you defend, or collect what is owed to you. We are way past the time of criminal rights, and we are way past the time of expecting our 'legal system' to do the right thing. If he would have simply called the police, they would have 'filed a report' and that would have been the end of it. The next time that guy gets in a cab, he will probably have the money to pay his fare.

I would of done the same thing as the taxi driver did. There is nothing that I hate worse than a thief.

Obviously this is not the right way to defend what is owed to you, but it has gotten to the point where the people being taken advantage of are fighting back. Good for them. Those that commit crimes, be careful.
