UPDATED: Marine Charged With Videoing Sex Between Minors

Jacksonville, NC - A Camp Lejeune Marine is accused of getting teens drunk and encouraging them to have sex. Authorities say he then video taped the events and even had sex with one of the victims.

Staff Sergeant Christopher Oden was arrested Friday and went before a district court judge Monday morning.

He's charged with statutory rape/sex offense with a person who is 13, 14, or 15 years old, indecent liberties with a child and six counts of misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile .

Deputies say on November 21st Oden held a party with several underage people attending. They claim Oden provided the victims alcohol and when intoxicated he encouraged them to engage in sex. "Oden provided the victims with alcohol and allowed them to drink as much as they desired," said Captain Rick Sutherland with the Onslow County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies say the Marine photographed and video taped the events as well as having intercourse with at least one of the minors after they were drunk.

The Marine is also charged with possessing a controlled substance. Deputies say that came about when deputies searched the man's Hubert home.

Oden is assigned to the 2nd Marine Division.

He is in the Onslow County jail on a $110,000 bond. If he's freed on bond, the judge ordered Oden not to have any contact with the victims or their families.

The Marine's next court date is January 8th and investigators say additional charges are pending.

Honestly if i had a part in the decisions that were made about chris he would still be on lockdowm without bail and a life sentence. knowing one victim of this case has made me realize that, chris oden is one messed up guy who doesnt deserve to breathe the same air as those children. Personally i feel embarassed to know that our government and court systems realesed him with probation and his other consequences.

Well I guess if your child gets hit by a car .....................You should have been watching and it is all your fault right . Gee if you leave your teen at these kids clubs for 2 years in a row and they get left behind somewhere that's your fault too . No it is at the hands of people we trust and I would stake my life on the fact we have all trusted someone we shouldn't even our family members . No one is perfect . But this guy is Sick

Yes parents have a responsibility to keep track of their kids BUT the only blame here is on the man that did this to them. Good parents cannot control everything your child does at every minute, no matter how hard you try. Only a GPS tracking chip inserted in their body could allow you to know exactly where they are at all times. Even then you couldn't be sure WHAT they were doing. It can happen to the best of kids no matter how well you parent them. The person at fault is this Marine. Also agree that PTSD will no doubt come up. He will have some smooth excuse, no doubt about that.

Wow, I might be part of the minority here. It absolutely does fall to the parents of under-age children to know what their children are doing at ALL TIMES- who they're with, what they're doing, when they'll be back, and to check up on the kids. In this day and age we want to be able to trust our children, who knows these kids might have been lying about where they were- but it is still their parents responsibility to make sure they're safe. It isn't about supporting the accused or placing blame somewhere else. What this is is a huge wake-up for all you parents out there who think, "my child would never under-age drink!" or "my child doesn't need to be supervised- they're a teenager!" It's stupidity to think that way. Because of this sick man (and people who couldn't keep track of their children) lives have been forever altered for these kids- don't place the blame on them, though- they're just KIDS. Blame the adults- all of them- in the situation- and hold them all accountable.

No doubt the lame PTSD excuse will filter into all of this.

I guess it makes better shock value to say "Marine Charged With Videoing Sex Between Minors". do you suppose the headline would read "7-11 clerk charged with videoing minors". I know these guys(marines) are to be held to higher expectations than most, because they have been given a (sacred) trust, but some end up being dirt-bags. This one is the "very small minority" that gives every other military person a bad name.

Why is all this happening? Something somewhere is not helping to STOP this mess.I have personally delt w a similar situation in my life and i always felt as though no one else knew what it was like and understood! WE have got to get awareness out reasure people its ok to speak up and work together to stop this. IF WE CAN FIGHT DRUGS AND GANGS WHY NOT THIS?

U have no clue what this is like and the effect it has on not only these kids but the parents too.Just watching r child go threw somehting like this is hard enough and asking urself what could i have done!!People that make comments like its not just his fault are WORNG!Untill u know what its like and i pray u never will don't point fingers.Any shrink will tell the parents as well as the victim or victims in this case that it's not any ones fault but the sick person that did this.
