A Wilimington man has been convicted on sex and weapons charges even though he skipped most of his trial.
The Star-News of Wilmington reported that 39-year-old Brian Keith Perry was convicted Thursday afternoon of statutory rape, taking indecent liberties with a child and possession of a gun by a felon.
The judge has issued a warrant for his arrest.
Perry had attended jury selection Monday and Tuesday for the start of the trial. But he didn't show up Wednesday and the judge ordered the trial to continue without him.
Assistant District Attorney Meredith Everhart says Perry faces between 25 years and 41 years in prison for his convictions. She said Perry's lawyer, Brian Wilson, had not heard from Perry and could not contact him on his cell phone.
