An Elizabeth City man has pleaded guilty to manufacturing child pornography after investigators found evidence that he not only participated in online exchanges, but he was using two young children to make child porn.
Daniel Sherwin of Elizabeth City pleaded guilty to two counts of manufacturing child pornography this week, authorities say the incidents happened in December of last year.
Sherwin is a registered sex offender who was previously convicted in the state of Utah of eight counts of second degree sexual exploitation of a minor. Because of Sherwin's prior criminal history, he faces a minimum of 25 years imprisonment, plus an additional 10 years for having committed the crime while being required by law to register as a sex offender. His sentencing will be in february 2009.
This case is part of the Project Safe Childhood initiative, a national program aimed at ensuring that criminals exploiting children are effectively prosecuted by making full use of all available law enforcement resources at every level.
