Beaufort police have ruled the death of a man found floating in the water on Friday as an accidental drowning.
A passerby spotted the body of 46-year-old Rusty Sage floating near the town docks.
Police say Sage and another man were piloting a boat from New Jersey to Florida and they had docked in Beaufort.
A body was found this morning on the waterfront in Beaufort.
A passerby alerted police shortly after 7:00 a.m. Friday after spotting the body floating in the water near the town docks on Front Street.
Beaufort police say they have identified the dead man as 46-year-old Rusty Sage of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Investigators say Sage and another man were piloting a boat from New Jersey to Florida and they had docked in Beaufort.
“There are no apparent signs of foul play, however, until an autopsy is performed and until Detective Edwards has concluded the case we are treating the case as suspicious,” says Chief Steve Lewis
The man's body is being sent to the medical examiner to determine how he died.
