Jacksonville Wal-Mart Shooter Pleads Guilty

The man accused of shooting up the new Jacksonville Wal-Mart plead guilty in an Onslow County courtroom.

Elijah Payne was working at the Yopp Road Wal-Mart back in March. Authorities say he went on an employee break, grabbed a sawed off shotgun from his car and covered his face in camouflage paint. Police say Payne held about 15 people hostage in an employee break room. No one was injured in the attack.

The 18-year-old was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and manufacturing a weapon of mass destruction.

In a deal with prosecutors, Payne pleaded guilty to first degree kidnapping and possession of a weapon of mass destruction.

He was sentenced to serve between 6 and 8 years in prison on the kidnapping charge. Payne also has to serve 5 years of probation. The judge said if he violates that probation then he serve another 16-20 months on the weapons charge.

Hi Anonymous on Nov. 17, 2008 at 11:12PM So us US Marines who won WW2 were full of Pro American Propoganda. Does that include the US Army who fought against Hitler and Nazi Germany not to mention the Navy and Air Force. German could have been our national language today, and there would be no elections. You should thank us 2 Million mind numb robots who served and died for your freedom.

Well not to say it was right what he did but someone must have been teasing him or something. People dont realize what constant teasing can do to. All it takes is to catch someone at the wrong time and start teasing them and they go postal. On the same note Mr Payne is lucky that no one else was armed as lots of people nowadays have CCW licenses.
