A New Bern man entered a plea of guilty to molesting his 9-year-old
goddaughter.

On Thursday a judge sentenced 49-year-old Kevin Michael bates to at
least 15 months in prison.

Bates turned himself into New Bern police in October. He was charged
with taking indecent liberties with a child. The former marine who lived
with the victim's family says he touched her inappropriately on the
bathroom floor countless times.

The victim's mother spoke to WITN about her daughter's abuse and
says she doesn't know how long the despicable acts were going on.

If Bates gets out on parole, judge ken crow said he must be
psychologically evaluated, register as a sex offender for 10 years, and be assessed for satellite monitoring.

yes she will forgive you if she even blames you but I dont thank she will.you are so right what is more important than the saftey of our childern why do people always say nyes that was bad and give him life or put him in the chair.when will they remember people are out here still hurting and can use help even if it is some one to talk with or a shoulder to cry on.How many people must go through things like this before people start standing up and speaking out all the time.I feel for you and would like to help any way I can with these woohoos on the bench or at the DAs office...

After all is said and done, after all the news camera crews and the interviews. She has already been forgotten everyone to go on with their lives, thinking that this would never happen to my kid.Well this little girl is my step-daughter.If you notice on this page the headline isn't even up here anymore. But I can tell you one thing it is still just as fresh to day as I found out and seen the expression on her mother's face. Not to mention the emotions and anger that were going through my mind. One day we have the pieces put back together, and going on with our lives but not today and not for a while now.I just pray that no one else has to go through what our family did.Through the pain of finding out that your child has been hurt, then the slap on the face the judge gives you when he doesn't deliver the justice he was appointed to do.Not a day that goes by that I don't ask myself why didn't the judge do his job,to ensure that he doesn't get the chance to do to another child.I pray for you.

personaly i would wait the 15 months and give my own 'justice' to the guy that did it. or if you dont want to go that far wait until he is out of prison and make sure everywhere he goes everyone knows what he did so he wont be able to live his life in peace . Or try and find out if he done it to anyone eles it would mean he gets more time inside.

You know if it were a congressman or a top government official. If it were their kid the judge would royally throw the book at him.At least a life sentence would be handed down, but not for the common man not the taxpayer. Not the person who spends her day trying to raise her kids the right way to become men and women of GOD and productive members of society. It is a shame that this is allowed to continue to happen. All it does is keep the cycle going.Spreading like a horrible disease, without a cure. The cure is to make these guys rot in jail and not give them the opportunity to spread their "sickness".Maybe then we can put and end to current sex offenders and future ones as well.People like this are a real threat to our societies children. Not to be taken lightly, but seriously.Like a rabid dog, when the animal control catches a rabid dog,do they hold it for a little while put their name on a list then let them go back to harm other animals or people. No,of course not.Such a thing has happened.

I hear judge Crow is up for re-election and same with the DA.We should all vote for the other runners and forget about these two if they cant make the giulty pay for their crimes.Heck some people get 6 years for lesser crimes then this jerk did..Lets show them what we thank about them and their give him less jobs..

Its a shame that the law has to show injustice to GODs special children.Whats this world coming to that the handicape kids get no justice from such perverts.I seen the news reports on the tv.The DA and judge must have let that baby rapper cut a deal to just get 15 months. He should have gotten at leats 25 to 60 years if they would have gone by the laws the were passed years ago on just this subject. Some one needs to answer to the injustice your daughter received in that court room.I beleive the judge and DA need to join him in prison for their actions in this case. Ask GOD to take care of you and your kids and protect you from any more idiots like him.We can leave answers here but it will only help for a little while God helps all the time he just wants you to ask him.Dont let the law bring you and your kids down for they are human and they will have to answer to God about this even though its their jobs. But they need to take more interest in the victims and not the criminals.I hope you and your daughter are doing ok.

It is absolutely appalling that this guy only got 15 months! I hope that something different can be done in this case.. My prayers to the family, and definately the victim..
