$30,000 In Gold & Silver Coins Taken In Martin County Heist

Deputies in Martin County say they need your help in solving a case where over $30,000 in gold and silver coins were taken in a burglary.

Deputies say the break-in was at a home on Prison Camp Road, near the Holiday Inn Express. The victims say it happened when they were at church and their safe, which was in a closet, was broken into.

Deputies believe the thieves used a dark blue suitcase to take the coins from the home between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.

Anyone in the area of the Holiday Inn Express who may have seen an someone carrying a dark suitcase Sunday evening should contact the Martin County Sheriff's Office at 252-789-4500.

Information can also be provided to Martin County Crimestoppers at 252-792-8800. A reward of up to $1,500.00 is available to those who provide information that leads to an arrest.

Lawmen say the burglary is similar to safecrackings that have happened in Pitt County.
