14-Year-Old To Be Tried As Adult In Hustle Mart Murders

A 14-year-old will be tried as an adult for April's shooting that killed three employees at a Pitt County convenience store.

A Pitt County judge this morning made the ruling after a closed hearing, according to Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Christy Wallace.

The teen was one of four people charged with the April 1st murders of Nabil Al'mogannahi, Mokbel Almujanhi and David Alawi at the Hustle Mart, outside of Farmville. The others charged in the case, Antwan Anthony of Bethel, Willie Whitehead of Pinetops, and Xavier Shamble of Farmville could face the death penalty if convicted. Because of his age, the 14-year-old is not eligible for the death penalty.

The teen has not yet been identified as his attorney has 10 days to appeal the judge's ruling. His mother, Valerie Blount, was charged after the shooting with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
