FIRST ON WITN: 120 Mile Per Hour Chase Through Jacksonville

The Highway Patrol said officers had to throw stop sticks to stop the 22-year-old driver.

First Sergeant Daivd Oglesby of the Highway Patrol in Onslow County said what could have been a simple speeding ticket turned into a high speed chase topping out at 120 miles per hour.

Trooper Sean Spring clocked a speeding driver on Ramsey Road in Onslow County 9:52 P.M. Spring's report showed 22-year-old Xavier Guzman was going 70 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone. Troopers said Guzman did anything but lay off the gas pedal. Two highway patrolmen pursued the man down Highway 17, towards the Jacksonville city limits.

Investigators said Guzman got up to 120 miles per hour as the chase went from Highway 17, to Halltown Road, to Piney Green Road, and back to 17. Troopers said Guzman made a couple of loops on this path, at times, with his headlights off.

Jacksonville Police deployed stopsticks on a mostly bare Highway 17, blowing out a few of Guzman's tires. Troopers said Guzman made a run for a nearby home, jumping a privacy fence. Spring deployed a taser and arrested Guzman.

He is now in the Onslow County Jail, facing multiple charges including driving while impaired, felony fleeing to elude arrest, and speeding.
