Compact in size, but packing a powerful punch, hand blenders, stick blenders or their fancy name -- immersion blenders -- are creating quite a stir in the kitchen!

Immersion blenders aren't a new kid on the block. In fact, restaurant chefs have been using the big commercial versions for years, 'cause they make for easy one-step blending or pureeing of large quantities of food in deep pots and giant bowls. For us, the smaller "at home" versions are a kitchen must-have -- 'cause that same portability allows us to do the same thing on a smaller scale!

Just think of all the work we'll save when we make soups and sauces. Why put them in a blender or food processor in batches to get everything smooth when we can simply use an immersion blender right in the same pot we're cooking in?

For instance:

Your homemade broccoli Cheddar cheese soup will be as smooth as can be.

If you prefer your homemade applesauce smooth instead of chunky, no problem!

Morning smoothies can be made right in your drinking glasses!

Many brands of immersion blenders even come with handy attachments for whisking or for chopping garlic, nuts, herbs, and spices. Just think of the possibilities!
