President Bush declared Beaufort, Brunswick and Person counties disaster areas as a result of damage caused by Tropical Storm Hanna last month.

The federal disaster declaration allows local officials to get federal help to repair roads, bridges and beaches that were damaged when Hanna hit Sept. 6.

State officials estimate Hanna caused more than $14 million in damage to public infrastructure in the three coastal counties.
