Authorities say life-threatening injuries are involved in the early morning wreck.

A woman was taken to Vidant after a single-vehicle wreck on Highway 258, near the intersection of Tyson Chapel Church Road near the Pitt County line.

First responders initially said there were life-threatening injuries involved in the wreck, which happened around 5 a.m.

Troopers say 29 year old Shawna Edmundson, who first responders say was pregnant, was in stable condition as of 7 a.m., but they did not know the condition of the baby.

Authorities say, for unknown reasons, the SUV Edmundson was driving ran off the road, hit a ditch and rotated. The woman was thrown out the back of the car and landed in another ditch.

Troopers say Edmundson was not wearing a seat belt.

The wreck was slowing traffic on Highway 258 at the Greene-Pitt County line earlier this morning. However, both lanes of traffic are open once again now that crews have cleared the scene.
