Woman Run Over Twice By Friend In Store Parking Lot

No charges have been filed after a woman was twice run over by a friend's vehicle in a store parking lot.

Swansboro police say Felicia Higinbotham of Newport and Ricardo Garcia of Hubert had gone to the Food Lion on West Corbett Avenue Monday.

Witnesses told police that the woman appeared to be woozy inside the store and she left before Garcia, sitting behind the vehicle.

Police say when Garcia came out, he assumed Higinbotham had left with a friend, so he backed out of the parking space, running over her. The man told police he thought something had broken with his power steering, so he pulled forward, pinning the woman under his vehicle.

The car had to be lifted off the woman by rescue crews and she was eventually taken to Vidant Medical Center where she is now in fair condition.

Witnesses told police it looked like an accident. Officers say there was no evidence that drugs or alcohol played a role in what happened.
