Winterville Police Chief Retires

By  |

After 30 years of law enforcement service, Winterville's police chief is stepping down.

A retirement reception was held Wednesday afternoon for Chief Billy Wilkes. He tells WITN he enjoyed his time in law enforcement helping people and working with officers and says the experience has made him a better person. In retirement he plans to spend more time with his family and take his boat out on the water.

Wilkes has served with the Winterville police department more than 12 years.
