Wilmington Gun Buyback Runs Out Of Money In 30 Minutes

A gun buyback program in Wilmington lasted just 30 minutes before it ran out of money.

Police and prosecutors joined with local churches for the program Saturday. Organizers set aside $4,000 from private donors, planning to pay $100 for handguns, shotguns or rifles and $200 for assault weapons. A total of 67 guns were collected.

Pastor Scott Dodson says plans are already being made for another buyback in several months. Dodson says organizers hope to get corporate sponsors so they can offer more money and get more guns from people who don't want them anymore.

Police will check the guns to see if they are connected to any crimes before destroying them.
