Washington Names New City Manager

The City of Washington announced Friday its new city manger is beginning work this summer.

Brian Alligood has been appointed the new city manager for Washington.

The city said since 2006, Alligood worked as a county manager in Granville County, overseeing more than 250 full-time staffers.

“I am excited about the appointment of Brian to the City Manager position with the City of Washington, " said Mayor Archie Jennings. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that will continue to move our organization and our community forward."

In early May, Josh Kay submitted his resignation as city manager after less than two years on the job. Kay said he would be taking a position with South Carolina's state-owned electric and water utility

Alligood will begin work in the City of Washington on July 1st, 2013.
