Washington City Manager Resigns, Takes Job In SC

Less than two years after being hired, Washington city manager Josh Kay has submitted his resignation and has taken a job in South Carolina with a utility provider.

Kay submitted his resignation at Monday night's Washington City Council meeting.

Kay was hired in May of 2011 and started in August of that year.

He told council he would stay here until mid May to help finalize the budget.

Kay has taken a position with Santee Cooper, South Carolina's state-owned electric and water utility, based in Moncks Corner.

Kay says, "It's really bittersweet. Washington is a great community. Got a great Mayor and Council, great staff, and so I was really torn in my decision to leave, but we are excited about the opportunities."

The city hopes to hire a new manager by July 1st.

Kay replaced Jim Smith who resigned in October of 2010 after five years with the city.
