Voters Approve PCC Bond

Voters in Pitt County have approved the $20-million bond to help pay for a new science building and a basic law enforcement training center.

The referendum passed 62% to 38% with 10,735 people voting yes and 6,479 voting no.

It would amount to 1.9 cent property tax for the next 20-years to help raise funds for two local projects.

PCC President Dennis Massey says the funds would ease the burden of overcrowding on their campus and provide more opportunities for students. Massey says, "We're the most crowded out of all 58 community colleges in the state on several scales. We continue to have good enrollment growth and we're doing incredible things to help the economy."

The college's board of directors says a bond referendum hasn't been requested since 1989.
