Virtual Academy Coming To Pitt County

A new pilot program called The Virtual Academy is coming to Pitt County Schools this fall and preparations to launch the first eight classes are well underway.

The Virtual Academy will offer mostly honors level courses in math, science, history, and English.

Sixteen teachers from around the county were in Greenville Tuesday to learn the finer points of running a virtual classroom.

The classes will consist mostly of assignments that students complete on their own schedule, but they will still be in close online contact with their teachers.

Administrators say the wealth of material available and the flexibility of online schedules makes the the Virtual Academy an appealing option.

Each class has room for up to twenty students and will draw from all six of the high schools in the county.

Students can contact their guidance counselors to learn how to enroll.
