Vidant Pink Power Social Raises Breast Cancer Awareness

October is breast cancer awareness month and communities across the east are spreading the word about prevention.

An event Tuesday night was about the power of pink...the signature color for those who have survived or still battling breast cancer.

The Vidant Health sponsored event at Rock Springs was all about positive thinking.

Breast cancer survivor Lindsey Smith exemplifies that very well.

Smith says, "What I like to say is I'm a breast cancer survivor, um but I'm not cancer free so I'm living a life of survivorship."

On June 18th, 2010, Smith learned she had breast cancer in both breasts. Then doctor's discovered she also had bone cancer. It was a diagnosis that seemed grim, but her determination to fight, came from her family.

Smith says, "I always knew I wanted to set a good example for my children and i just didn't think curling up in a ball and not living life would be good example for my children or anybody. I made the decision a long time ago, I could either cry about it or laugh about it, so I'm choosing to laugh about it!!"

WITN's Lynnette Taylor was the emcee for the "Pink Power Social."
