Morehead City's 17th Annual Veterans Day Parade was held Saturday to recognize our armed forces.

Around 25-thousand people lined Arendell Street to watch the pomp and circumstance honoring those actively serving overseas, and those that have served in the past.

"It says a lot about our community, that patriotism is not dead, that our core values are really important to us," said Hank Gotard, a veteran service officer for Carteret County.

From bands to floats, the show of pride was appreciated by Marines like Captain Daniel Apodaca and Corporal Kaitlyn Lesly, both whom recently served in Afghanistan. Saturday is also the 237th birthday of the USMC.

“It’s an honor, it's really nice to see everyone come out here and show their support past and present. People who have served and everyone who supports the military, it's a great day,” said Apodaca.

"It definitely makes you appreciate why you do it, it definitely reemphasizes why I get up and go to work every morning and why we do what we do," said Lesly.
