UPDATE: Second Suspect In Vanceboro Murder Turns Himself In

A second suspect wanted for last week's double-shooting outside of Vanceboro turned himself in Wednesday.

Antavious Stancil was wanted in connection with the murder of Avery Bartlett Junior. Bartlett and Angelo Whitehurst were both shot on Maul Swamp Road last Tuesday.

Whitehurst was arrested Sunday after being released from Pitt County Memorial.

Craven County lawmen are now looking for Antavious Stancil in connection with the murder of Avery Bartlett, Jr. Bartlett and Angelo Whitehurst were both shot on Maul Swamp Road. Whitehurst was arrested Sunday after being released from Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

Captain Joe Heckman says information developed as the investigation continued that there was a third shooter involved.

Deputies say they consider Stancil armed and dangerous. Anyone who knows his whereabouts should contact the Craven County Sheriff's Office at 252-636-6620.

The man who survived a shooting which killed another man has now been charged with murder.

Angelo Whitehurst was arrested Sunday after being released from Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

Whitehurst is accused of killing Avery Bartlett, Jr. on Maul Swamp Road outside of Vanceboro last Tuesday.

The 30-year-old Whitehurst had his first court appearance this morning and is being held without bond.

Deputies have now released the names of two people shot Tuesday night outside of Vanceboro.

Killed was Arvey Bartlett, Jr. His body was found on a dirt path off Maul Swamp Lane. The 19-year-old was a 2009 graduate of West Craven High School and played defensive end on their football team.

Airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital was Angelo Whitehurst who is in serious condition, according to deputies. Court records show the 20-year-old Whitehurst has pending charges in Craven County for conspiracy to sell/deliver cocaine and carrying a concealed weapon.

Deputies say both men have ties to Vanceboro and they are continuing to interview potential witnesses but so far no one has been arrested.

The Craven County Sheriff's Office confirms one person is dead and another was airlifted to Pitt County Memorial after a shooting in Vanceboro Tuesday night. Emergency crews are on the scene near the corner of Main Street and Maul Swamp Road near where a man was reported dead.

The Vanceboro Fire Department responded to the report of a man shot nearby on Dawson Lane just after 6:00pm. Fire Department Captain Chad Nobles says a caller reported a man had stumbled into his yard on Dawson Lane with a gunshot wound. Nobles says the victim was speaking when emergency crews arrived, but he would not say who shot him or why. An EastCare helicopter airlifted that man to Pitt County Memorial.

The Craven County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting. The names the man killed and the man wounded have not been released.
