Flower and gifts shops in the east have been busy getting ready for Valentine's Day.

We stopped in at a few shops in New Bern Wednesday that were bustling trying to keep up with the holiday demand.

Last minute shoppers can find a limited choice of arrangements at the Edible Arrangements store in New Bern. They say their fruit costs between $30.00 to $110.00 for an arrangement.

Owner Michelle Brayton says it's their first Valentine's Day and she was warned about the holiday rush. Brayton says, "We will be doing over 1,000 orders this week."

The craziness continued in downtown New Bern at Lou's Flower Shop. Workers there say they have done hundreds of orders and will be working through the night to complete nearly a hundred more by the big day. Darlene Locklear says, "We have had to order three extra times. We have had five shipments since Tuesday."

Lou's says their flowers go for $55.00 to $110.00 an arrangement.

Tommy Small was out buying for his mom, wife and daughter and spent $189.00 Small says, "It's once a year and you spend the money. It's for people that you love and if you don't your in trouble."
