USO Operation Cookie Drop Gives Local Troops Taste Of Home

Volunteers cooked up some sweet treats for local troops and gave them out today at the annual USO of Jacksonville Operation Cookie Drop.

The project provides about 13,000 cookies, candies, and brownies to service men and women standing post this Christmas at bases throughout the east. Members of the community baked. Some items were donated from stores. Volunteers spent Friday packing five cookies to each bag for a Christmas treat for our heroes here at home.

Sharon Dudley, the mother of an active service member, explains why the day is important.

"Because they're not home. They're protecting us. So if we can give them just a smile and maybe a cookie that gives them some hope to have a good Christmas that's what we want to do," said Dudley

The USO will host a Christmas dinner on Christmas day at it's Jacksonville center from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for local troops who can't get home for the holidays.
