A US Airways Express flight had to make an emergency landing this morning after one of its engines failed.
Pitt-Greenville Airport director Jerry Vickers says the Bombardier Dash 8 twin engine turbopro, with 50 people on board, was headed to Charlotte when the engine failed shortly after takeoff.
It was flight 4129 that took off just before 7:00 a.m.
He says the plane circled and then safely landed at the airport. Vickers says the passengers have been re-booked on to another flight this morning and a mechanic is now looking at the plane to see what happened.
The airport director says this is a rare occurrence, and this is the first time it's happened in his four years at PGV.
Ironically, the airport has planned an emergency drill for tonight that involves a simulated plane crash, part of its required certification from the Federal Aviation Administration.
