Police: Robbery Charges To Be Dropped After Victim Recants ID

Greenville Police say charges against a robbery suspect will be dropped after the victim who identified the suspect recanted his identification.

The armed robbery in question reportedly happened Monday at Eppes Park in Greenville.

Police on Wednesday said the victim in this case quickly and with 100% certainty identified to detectives, the suspect, Jamar Clark, as one of the men who assaulted and robbed him. On Wednesday August 28, the victim in this case recanted his identification of Clark as one of the suspects.

Detectives from the Greenville Police Department have since been unable to locate or contact the victim.

Charges against Clark in this case will have to be dismissed.

The case remains under investigation.


One of two men police say pistol-whipped and robbed a man in broad daylight is now behind bars.

Jamar Clark, 22, was arrested around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to officials at the Pitt County Detention Center.

Clark's accused of assaulting and robbing a man as he sat on a park bench on Nash St. Monday afternoon. About 25 minutes before that crime, police say another armed robbery happened in the Piggly Wiggly grocery store parking lot on Dickinson Ave. Clark has not been named a suspect in that crime.

The other suspect in the case has not been identified, but the investigation is continuing.

Greenville Police are investigating two robberies reported with a half hour of each other Monday afternoon.

About 2:00 pm. police say a man was pistol whipped while he was sitting on a bench near Eppes Recreation Center off Memorial Drive between West 4th and 5th Streets. Police say two armed men took money out of the man's pocket and ran away.

Police have identified one of the suspects as 22-year-old Jamar Blue Clark. Police have arrest warrants for 1 count of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill, and 1 count of robbery with a dangerous weapon.

The second suspect remains unidentified at this time, and the investigation is continuing. The second suspect is described as a black male with a shaved head. He was last seen wearing a blue tee-shirt, blue jean shorts, and flip-flops.

About 25 minutes before that robbery police were called to the armed robbery of a person at the Piggly Wiggly grocery store on Dickinson Avenue. Police say the victim reports someone pulled out a gun and demanded money while he was sitting in a car in the parking lot.

Police say the man got away with cash, but the man sitting in his car was not hurt.
