Tuscarrora Nation Presents Rare Wampum Belt To ECU

East Carolina University had an honor bestowed upon it Thursday not given to anyone since President George Washington.

ECU received a wampum belt from the Tuscarora Nation to mark the 300 year anniversary of the battle at Fort Nooherooka. The site of the fort lies about 30 miles away from ECU's campus.

A 3-day symposium, which started Thursday, will focus on the 1,000 year period prior to this battle when the Tuscarora people lived on the land that is now eastern north carolina.
