If you're planning on heading out onto the roads after a few drinks this weekend, you might want to think again.
Starting Friday, law enforcement officers will be out in full force throughout North Carolina. It's part of the Highway Patrol's Saint Patrick's Day "Booze It and Lose It" campaign.
Troopers will be conducting DWI checkpoints and increased patrols on roads.
1st Sgt. Marvin Williams says, "It's a holiday. Typically people are out and do celebrations and during those celebrations they typically drink alcohol. When that happens, those two mixing, typically we find more increase in DWI situations and alcohol-related collisions."
In 2013, law enforcement cited 690 motorists for driving while impaired.
The Highway Patrol also says drivers should be mindful of reduced visibility in the mornings, as they adjust to daylights savings time.
