Trial Scheduled For Mother Of Slain NC Girl

A trial date has been set for the mother of a slain 5-year-old Fayetteville girl.

The Fayetteville Observer reports Antoinette Davis faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, sexual servitude with a child and human trafficking in connection with the death of Shaniya Davis in November 2009.

District Attorney Billy West said Davis' trial will start Oct. 14. He expects it to last four to six weeks in Cumberland County Superior Court.

Davis's lawyer, D.W. Bray, asked for a second lawyer to assist him in her defense. Judge Jim Ammons granted the request.

Jurors deliberated for less than 40 minutes in late May before convicting Mario McNeill for the child's murder, McNeill was sentenced to death.
