Tractor Trailer Carrying Pigs Overturns On Highway

Officials spent hours Sunday cleaning up I-40 in Duplin County after an accident involving a tractor trailer carrying pigs.

The accident happened around 8:30 a.m. near mile marker 370.

Troopers say a tractor trailer heading westbound on I-40 near Warsaw ran off the highway and overturned. The tractor trailer was carrying pigs belonging to Martin's Pork Products. Several of the pigs died in the accident.

The Magnolia Volunteer Fire Department spent about five hours cleaning up the scene. Other agencies were called in to assist. Congestion was reported near the scene from 8:30 a.m. until around 1:45 p.m.
