Tideland EMC Asks Outer Banks To Conserve

A new transmission line was installed overnight Monday, prompting a local power company to ask the Outer Banks to conserve power until sunrise.

Tideland EMC employed social media as one tool to ask customers on Ocracoke and at Cape Hatteras to conserve power overnight Monday into early morning Tuesday.

Crews worked to install a new Pea Island transmission line, leaving both communities to rely on generator power through the night.

Crews said they expected everyone to have access to use power at full capacity by sunrise on Tuesday morning.
