UPDATE: Motel Room Meth Lab Suspect, Now Charged In High Speed Chase

The Highway Patrol confirms a suspect busted for manufacturing methamphetamine at a Kill Devil Hills motel is back in jail after a high-speed chase along U.S. 64.

Troopers say the chase started Friday night when a pickup truck driven by Joseph Forbes Jr. turned around as it approached a checkpoint in Tyrrell County. Forbes had just gotten out of jail on the meth charge. Troopers say another suspect in the meth case, Beverly Howell, was a suspect in the case.

Deputies chased the truck into Washington County at speeds up to 95 miles an hour. Troopers say Forbes swerved at 2 deputies before running into a ditch. Neither of the troopers was injured.

Howell was injured and taken to Vidant Medical Center.

Forbes now faces multiple counts in connection with the chase.

PREVIOUS STORY:
Three people were arrested last week for manufacturing methamphetamine inside a coastal motel room, according to The Virginian-Pilot newspaper.

The paper reports, 50-year-old Sammy Bowles Jr., 41-year-old Joseph Forbes and 43-year-old Beverly Howell were arrested for making meth in a motel room in Kill Devil Hills.

Officials did not release the name of the hotel where this was taking place, but that the crime scene did not require a hazardous-materials response.

The newspaper said the group was using a small scale method to make the meth.
