A 911 recording shows a 17-year-old male in the back seat of a Durham police car died after a gunshot wound.
Police said that Jesus Huerta was in a patrol car driven by Officer Samuel Duncan in the parking lot of police headquarters around 3 a.m. Tuesday when he died. Duncan said he heard a loud noise and jumped from the car, allowing it to roll into a van.
The recording shows that Duncan asked for medical assistance for a gunshot wound for the teen.
Police Chief Jose Lopez said Tuesday that investigators did not know how Huerta died. Lopez said there is no indication Duncan or any officer fired a weapon.
Police would not talk about the 911 recording Wednesday.
Duncan is on leave during the investigation.
