Teachers Would Give Up Tenure Under Pay Raise Plan

Senate Republicans rolled out a teacher pay hike plan that would give educators the largest pay increase in the state's history, but with a catch.

Senate Leader Phil Berger said the $468 million plan would boost the state from 47th to the middle of the rankings for teacher pay.

If teachers took the 11.2% pay raise, they would give up their current tenure plan. Those that kept tenure would remain on the state's current pay schedule.

Republicans in the Senate say their proposal to fund the pay hike this coming year does so without a tax increase.
